Sustainability at The Grange Medical Practice

This clock counts down to a critical point for our planet’s climate.
Take action with us to ensure a sustainable future.

We are committed to being a sustainable practice and reducing our environmental impact. We believe that everyone has a role to play in protecting our planet, and we encourage our patients to join us in our efforts.

Here is what we are doing to drive sustainability

Reducing waste

We are working to reduce waste in all areas of our practice, this includes:

  • Utilising recycled paper products whenever possible.
  • Minimizing packaging for supplies and medications.
  • Implementing responsible disposal protocols for waste.

Improving energy efficiency

We are taking steps to improve energy efficiency in our practice, this includes:

  • Replacing lights with energy-efficient LED lightings throughout the practice.
  • Encouraging responsible energy use by turning off lights and electronics when not in use.
  • Maintaining comfortable yet energy-saving thermostat settings.

Reducing use of paper and plastic via using online services

We prioritize medication adherence while minimizing unnecessary prescriptions and packaging waste. This includes:

  • Offering electronic appointment reminders and confirmations.
  • Providing online patient portals for accessing medical records and lab results.
  • Using double-sided printing for essential documents.
  • Investing in digital forms and prescriptions whenever possible.

Sourcing products responsibly

We are committed to sourcing products from environmentally responsible companies, this includes:

  • Prioritising products made from recycled materials.
  • Choosing recyclable products whenever possible.

Additional Quality Initiatives at The Grange

This practice is delighted to be signed up to the Green Impact for Health Toolkit and is actively taking steps to reduce our carbon footprint. The climate emergency is also a health emergency, and health care in the UK contributes 4-5% of the UK’s carbon emissions. We need to enhance the health of today’s population without compromising the health of future generations, and this means operating within the sustainable boundaries of the planet. Fortunately, most of the solutions for the planet also make our health better – for example eating a mainly plant-based diet, engaging in active travel and exercise in nature, avoiding smoking, reducing pollution etc. These all enhance our health and reduce our need for medications, with further benefits to the NHS, your health and the carbon footprint of healthcare.
