We now have an Anticoagulation service which will start on April 1 2015 and which is designed to provide a better, more accessible service for patients. This service will run on Monday afternoons and Wednesday mornings, by appointment only.
The new service will be more personal, and provide a high quality, safe anticoagulation service which is more accessible and offers more choice.
Instead of being seen in outpatient clinic at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary or at at community phlebotomy clinics throughout the area the new service will be delivered from a series of specialist community "hubs"
All patients will be seen face to face by an anticoagulant specialist pharmacist, anticoagulant specialist nurse or general practice nurse with specialist knowledge of anticoagulation. Blood tests will be done at the beginning of the appointment by finger prick testing and your new dose and next test date will be written into your yellow record book which you will be required to bring to every appointment. This will enable you to have the INR test, dose and the next test appointment made all at the same time in a location which is convenient for you.
Your registered GP will be informed of your dosage requirements and prescriptions for further supplies of anticoagulation drugs which will be issued from them (including previously non-prescribing GP’s)
